Local Cattle Barons’ Ball Celebrates 10th Anniversary

10/30/2012

2012 marks the 10th anniversary of the American Cancer Society South Atlantic Division’s Cattle Barons’ Ball, and it’s time to celebrate. This year’s western-style gala, with the theme "Hats Off to Fighting Cancer", will be held on Saturday, November 10, and is destined to be a event not to be missed. "We are thrilled to have the award-winning country quartet, LONESTAR, agree to give their time and perform for this year’s Ball," explains Kay Fulp, the 2012 Cattle Barons’ Ball Chairman.

LoneStar, which is on its 20th anniversary tour this summer, is known for such hits as "Amazed," "I’m Already There," and "Come Crying to Me." "We are excited about participating in this fun-filled event by playing our music and having some fun while bringing awareness to the cause and raising money to support the research, education and patient programs of the American Cancer Society," says band member Dean Sams.

Featuring a new venue at Falcon Field in Peachtree City, there will be plenty of room to party and raise money for the American Cancer Society. In addition to great entertainment by LONESTAR with opening act by SaraBeth Swagerty, guests will enjoy dinner catered by Longhorn, dancing, midway games including the mechanical bull, and auction. "One of the highlights of the silent auction can be found under the Parade of Pigs sign," says Kay. "These are ceramic piggy banks that are hand painted by local artists and signed by all types of celebrities. Many guests purchase at least one every year for a keepsake of the event."

As has become a Cattle Barons’ Ball tradition, this year’s Ball will honor our Faces of Hope, local individuals who represent the thousands in our community who have suffered, fought, and survived cancer. Their courage is an inspiration to us all. John Wayne said it well, "Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway." There is one Face of Hope for each of the years the Ball has been held. The final Face of Hope is always the cancer survivor you or I have never met – the survivor whose face may not be here, but who we hold in our hearts just the same.

Luminarias are available for sale to honor or remember those loved ones who has walked the cancer path. For a donation of $20, luminaria in your loved one’s honor or memory may be purchased and will be displayed at the Cattle Barons’ Ball.

Kay says, "Get involved! Bring your friends, bring your money, and be prepared for an evening filled with rhinestones, blue jeans and cowboy hats. I know you won’t regret it. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you who attend. Let’s raise money for cancer and celebrate more birthdays."

Over the past nine years, the Ball and its events, which include golf and tennis tournaments, have raised more than $1,100,000 to fight cancer. Tickets are $125 and tables start at $1500. Sponsorships range from $250 to $25,000.
