Emory Winship Cancer Institute Will Host the Douglas R. Murray Melanoma Symposium on February 24, 2007

The Emory Winship Cancer Institute will host the Douglas R. Murray Melanoma Symposium on February 24, 2007 at the Emory Conference Center. This meeting will bring together practitioners across the continuum of melanoma care. Participants will gain information regarding Emory’s advancement of melanoma care in a case-based, interactive program that deals with real-life applications and challenges. Learning objectives include the following:
  • Discuss the rationale for specific tumor thickness cutoff points for performing sentinel lymph node biopsy in melanoma patients
  • Compare and contrast management strategies for melanoma patients with different degrees of lymph node involvement
  • Describe surgical and medical approaches to management of distant disease in melanoma patients
This program is geared towards primary care physicians, dermatologists, dermatologic surgeons, surgical and medical oncologists, general surgeons, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, oncology nurses, and other health care professionals who treat or screen for melanoma. Activities will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. The tuition is $75 and includes meals and refreshments. The Emory University School of Medicine has designated this educational program for a maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Rep. Lee Hawkins, R-Gainesville, the committee’s chairman, said he and other lawmakers are working on drug pricing and other issues. He wrapped up the committee’s listening tour by saying the General Assembly will continue to study cancer care access.
