Dr. Roland Matthews receives Grady’s Inspiring Mentor Award

5/02/2014

On March 14, Georgia CORE Board member Roland Matthews, MD was awarded the Inspiring Mentor Award by the Grady Health Foundation at its Fourth Annual White Coat Grady Gala. Dr. Matthews joined three other doctors in being honored at the gala, which is also the foundation’s signature fundraising event.

“I am esteemed to be recognized along with these amazing colleagues, all of whom share my desire to see life as a teaching moment and to pass on the right lesson,” said Dr. Matthews.

More than 700 community leaders came together at the Georgia Aquarium for the black-tie event to support the Grady Health System and celebrate healthcare heroes and the patients they serve.

“Dr. Matthews has devoted his career to providing the peace of mind that cancer often takes away, and he coaches others to do the same,” said Renay Blumenthal, Grady Health Foundation president. “Through his compassionate work at the Georgia Cancer Center for Excellence, his dedication has truly impacted our community.”

This year’s White Coat Grady Gala raised more than $1 million. Contributions from the event will support Grady Health System and the work of its staff.
