Summary

This trial explores those things that make a diagnosis of cancer upsetting or stressful and to also find out whether seeing videos of other African American cancer survivors talking about their experience and listening to the religious songs and text they used will help you relieve psychological stress in current cancer patients and their family members. The information learned from this research may help other African American cancer patients and their family members during a diagnosis and treatment for cancer.

Objectives

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:
I. Develop a series of professionally edited narrative video recordings of African American cancer patient and family caregivers (FCG) survivorship narratives that are grounded in the strong spiritual culture of African Americans.
II. Evaluate the usability and acceptability of this intervention. Usability is evaluated through clarity, persuasiveness, and ease of use.

OUTLINE:
Patients watch a brief series of survivorship videos over 30 minutes of other African Americans who have had treatment for cancer over 3 weeks. Patients also complete 5 interviews over 45 minutes at baseline, after each viewing of video recordings, and at 6 weeks. Patients may also be asked to have their own story video recorded.
