Clinical and Screening Programs Director

Cindy serves as the Director of Clinical and Screening Programs for Georgia CORE. With more letters than alphabet soup, Cindy’s credentials reflect the four times she was led to nursing school through her career. Now, after four decades as a practicing nurse, she is the Advanced Clinical Genomics Nurse Practitioner and Oncology Nurse Navigator for Georgia CORE where she leads the genetic screening program provided in partnership with the Georgia Department of Public Health, the Georgia Colorectal Cancer Control Program, and the Health Resources & Services Administration Rural Care Coordination grant program.

Before coming to Georgia CORE, Cindy was a Nurse Practitioner and Advanced Genetics Nurse in the Northside Gwinnett Cancer Genetics and Risk Assessment Program. She has administrative experience and has also taught at Walden as a clinical instructor. In addition to dozens of professional presentations and a couple unpublished manuscripts, Cindy has published articles in Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Journal of Oncology Nursing

Cindy has a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Union University in Jackson TN; a Master of Science in Nursing from Brenau University in Gainesville, GA; a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta; and an Associate Degree in Nursing from Georgia Perimeter College in Clarkston. She is a member of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and Oncology Nursing Society. She is a recipient of The Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses from Gwinnett Medical Center and the Gwinnett Chamber Healthcare Excellence Awards Nurse Practitioner of the Year, among other numerous awards.

Oct. stakeholder session: Should Georgia have a cancer clinical trials roundtable?

Day 2 of an impressive convening of Georgia CORE partners representing the cancer research, care provider, patient navigation and advocacy communities. Each stakeholder session was an opportunity for these groups to come together and discuss how to carry the recommendations forward of the Georgia House Study Committee on Access to Cancer Care on day 1; and the state of cancer clinical trials in Georgia on day 2. Be on the look out for the forthcoming report of these impactful two days!
