Georgia Cancer Info Founding Partners

The Georgia Center for Oncology Research and Education (Georgia CORE) was founded by the Georgia Cancer Coalition (GCC) and the Georgia Society for Clinical Oncology (GASCO). GCC was a 10-year initiative that achieved its stated aim of leveraging proceeds from the tobacco settlement to develop a holistic cancer-fighting strategy for Georgia. The initiative had two components – cancer research and cancer care – and in 2011, the state decided it was most efficient to move both components to organizations already excelling in these areas. That meant that the Coalition’s scientific research component moved to the Georgia Research Alliance (GRA) while cancer care activities transferred to Georgia CORE. Both organizations are now building on the GCC’s foundational work. GRA and GASCO continue to support Georgia CORE, most recently as partners of GeorgiaCancerInfo.org.
