At the end of this 1-hour session, participants will: 

  • Understand the role of rehabilitation and exercise in the management of physical side effects common to all cancers, including fatigue and chemotherapy-related peripheral neuropathy.
  • Understand common physical side effects of breast cancer treatment and the role of rehabilitation and exercise in the management of physical issues such as reduced shoulder and trunk mobility, lymphedema, weakness and arthralgia strength related to surgery, radiation, chemotherapy and hormone therapy.
  • Understand the role of exercise in reducing cancer risk and risk of recurrence.
  • Navigate patients to rehabilitation and exercise resources, including TurningPoint and local professionals and programs when available.

Presenters:

Jill Binkley, PT, MSc, CLT, FAAOMPT is Program Director and Founder of TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation, a non-profit 501(c)3 healthcare organization. Jill has extensive experience as a clinician and educator in the fields of breast cancer rehabilitation, orthopaedic physical therapy and manual therapy. She is a Certified Lymphedema Therapist and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy. She has over 25 peer-reviewed publications and has presented locally, nationally and internationally on outcome measurement in physical therapy and breast cancer rehabilitation. As a breast cancer survivor, Jill is a passionate advocate for increased attention to the unmet physical and emotional side effects of breast cancer treatment and the role of rehabilitation and exercise in improving the quality of life of breast cancer survivors. Jill is a member of the Oncology and Orthopaedic Sections of the American Physical Therapy Association and serves on the Editorial Board of Rehabilitation Oncology.
 
Dr. Marilyn Pink is the Executive Director of TurningPoint Breast Cancer Rehabilitation, a non-profit 501(c)3 healthcare organization. Dr. Pink’s has extensive experience as an educator, clinical researcher and business owner. Dr. Pink has published over 150 research articles in peer reviewed medical journals and is a well-known speaker internationally. She founded two successful online medical ‘service as product’ companies.  She is the holder of multiple patents as well as is the recipient of research grants.  Her BA is in Biology, her MS in PT is from Boston University, her MBA from UCLA’s Executive Program and her dual Ph.D. is in research methodology and anatomy.
