Georgia CORE partners with Leadership Atlanta to destigmatize cancer in the workplace

Though cancer impacts everyone, it is still whispered about and rarely spoken of openly outside of the cancer care community. This is particularly true in our places of business where it can have a large impact on not only the individual survivor’s work, but also on organizational productivity, employee morale, and office culture.
Georgia CORE identified the need to work with the business community to destigmatize cancer in the workplace and appealed to Leadership Atlanta to take this on as a class project. An energetic group from the 2025 LA class agreed. They developed a toolkit for companies and a marketing plan to socialize the toolkit among Atlanta area business leaders.
“We’ll start sharing the toolkit in May through the Society of Human Resource Managers in Atlanta, and once we get feedback from initial adopters, we’ll tweak it as necessary and continue socializing the toolkit throughout the state,” said Lynn. “Leadership Atlanta gave us a great product, but we know it’s not a final product. We will continue to build on it to address this critical and ongoing issue.”
Representatives from the LA project team attended the April Georgia CORE Board meeting and led by Yvette Taylor (pictured), gave a high-level report of their work, which was well-received by the Board.
“I’d love for Georgia CORE to be known as experts in this area,” concluded Lynn.
